About the Albums

Hi friends,

A Glimpse Beyond was a collection of songs that came together with all my reflections on the past. Some of the musicians that worked with me on this album called it “healing music.” It definitely helped me in that way! This album took over four years to put together. It was recorded in multiple locations, from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to Spokane, Washington.

The idea for Mountain Memories came to me in the late 80s in Guatemala. I had gone into gumbo studios in Guatemala City and recorded 3 1/2 hours worth of music. Within this Group of music was a song called “The Mountains Are Calling Me Home.” As I listened to the song, I was inspired to make what I call a mountain music CD. This is not bluegrass, this is not country. This was my own version of mountain music. Some of these songs were composed all the way back to the mid-70s.

My World Vision In the 60-70s, my favorite music was protest music that advocated for world peace. This album has many tunes to lift your spirits during these turbulent times. Also there are songs that give you my vision on what we should be doing to help bring peace to our world. My first two albums were done live, I recorded harmonica, guitar, and vocals in one sitting. In this album, I recorded different sound patterns separately that I then looped to come up with a unique sound for this album.

I want to thank all of the exquisite musicians and vocalist that help me with this venture. Special thanks to my good friend Kenny Frank For his exquisite Madeleine work, and to my daughters Katie and Darcy for their violins and vocals. Will be releasing soon!

Thank you and enjoy!

Phil

About

Who is Phil?

Phil Malberg has been composing music since 1972. His genre is Indie Folk Blues. His songs are inspired by the many seasons of his life—the happy times, the troubled, the exciting, the uncertain, and the many moments filled with love. Many of his songs are also inspired by the Bahá’í Faith, a world religion that promotes the oneness of humanity, eliminating prejudices, and uniting to build a better world that promotes the equality and wellbeing of all peoples. Phil writes music to lift his spirits and give him a new perspective on life, and hopes it lifts your spirit, too.

Thank you for listening!

These instruments have been through floods, fires, (etc) you name it! Phil's oldest guitar is 25 years old. His trusty stand he made by hand to hold the harmonicas. Pan flute and recorders 20 years. And of course, the harmonicas he's had for a lifetime, passed down by his great grandfather.
